Tracom Services Limited, the leading payments provider in Africa has partnered with Europe’s automated fare platform, O-CITY to develop and roll out a cashless fare collection platform.
The platform is known as Lipafare, which means to pay bus fare in Swahili, is aimed at the public transport industry in Kenya and Africa at large. Public Transport is the main mode of transport on the continent and is used by over 80% of all comminutors. The industry is very cash-intensive.
Lipafare will address the inherent challenges experienced by the industry by automating fare collections. The system is USSD based and can work with all types of Mobile phones. Each vehicle is issued a code that acts as an account number within the system.
Lipafare is implemented by Nikodigi, a subsidiary of Tracom Services Limited, whose core business is Sacco management and payment solutions. Nikodigi has vast experience in the sector and understands the needs and challenges of the commuter, matatu crew, and vehicle owner.
Tracom Services Limited, the leading payments provider in Africa, has signed an agreement with the Government of Liberia. Under the agreement, Tracom Services Limited will deploy its Electronic fiscal device management solution (EFDM) that will monitor and track transactions and sales records of businesses in Liberia.
The project was initiated in 2018 by the Ministry of Commerce and following an International Competitive Bidding process, Tracom Services Limited emerged as the most competitive having demonstrated a strong track record, remarkable technical expertise, and sufficient financial capacity.
The EFDM solution comprises of a Tax management solution known as “Miliki” and Electronic fiscal devices (ETRs)
Miliki will aggregate sales data from local businesses such as supermarkets, shops, hotels, and other business ventures. The aim is to boost revenue collection by promoting accountability and transparency in the filing and payment of General Services Tax.
Miliki will increase revenue collection for the Government of Liberia by improving efficiency in tax administration and entrenching professionalism amongst public and private sector actors and also create thousands of direct and indirect jobs especially for local IT firms to carry out on-site and off-site maintenance services for twenty thousand electronic fiscal devices to be deployed at various businesses across the country.
